October 2023 Boricua Cigar Subscription Pack

Welcome to the October 2023 edition of the Boricua Cigar Club subscription cigar pack! I want to thank each of you for your support. If you're reading this and are not a member, sign up and join in on the fun! My biggest objective with this club is to amplify your cigar palate and shed light to many cigar manufacturers that I feel are putting out great cigars.

Speaking of manufacturers, our featured manufacturer this month is Black Works Studio.

Black Works Studio focuses on artisanal qualities of small batch cigar making. Each line in their portfolio is produced in limited vitolas (sizes) and 100 box batches. Their goal is to push the boundaries and create cigars for the next generation of cigar smokers. Gotta love it!

Alright, let's dive into this month's cigar pack!

Black Works Studio Killer Bee - Robusto

Strength - Full Body

In 2015, the co-owner of Black Label Trading Co., James Brown, launched a new brand named Black Works Studio to make unique premium cigars. Boutique brands are always aiming to generate a buzz with their blends. The first of what is sure to be many releases from BWS is Killer Bee, and as the name implies, it can sting. For the unique factor, Brown created the cigar to have a signature linear cap, made of strips of natural tobacco wound around the Maduro wrapper resembling bee stripes. The dark Ecuadorian Maduro wrapper encases fiery Nicaraguan binder and filler that produces a full-bodied profile, filled with notes of pepper, earth, and wood that make a bee-line for the palate and swarm the senses. Not recommended on an empty stomach!

Black Works Studio

Lizard King - Event Only Cigar

Strength - Medium Plus

The NBK Lizard King cigar is a limited release by Black Works Studio that will blow your mind. Not literally, but it's definitely worthy of a spot in your humidor. Rocking the barber pole style, this cigar utilizes an Ecuadorian Maduro and an Ecuadorian Rojiso wrapper – both rich and delicious. The dual wrapper allows for extra strength and a bit more spice in the flavor than the original NBK (which stands for Natural Born Killer). The binder and filler consist of aged Nicaraguan tobaccos all grown directly from their Fabrica Oveja Negra factory.

Box-pressed, an artistic band design, and a phenomenal flavor profile – what more could you ask for? This is a hard cigar to find but here you are with it in your hands!

Kristoff GC Signature Series

Robusto

Strength - Medium Plus

Kristoff GC Signature Series is hands down one of the most intriguing blends to bear the Kristoff name. Due to producing rich, chewy notes of oak, molasses, dried fruit, and cocoa, along with a spicy-sweet finish, it's easy to see why. The word on the street is this blend is the personal favorite of Kristoff owner and creator, Glen Case. On the outside awaits a Brazilian Maduro wrapper, boasting a gorgeous oily sheen. Tucked just beneath this leaf a long-filler, Cuban-seed core of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobaccos secured by a Honduran binder.

Goss Cigars - Hot August Nights Live at the Amphitheater

Toro

Strength - Medium

Goss Hot August Nights Live at the Greek Amphitheater cigars are hand crafted for Nick Goss of Goss Tobacco at “FTC” Fabrica Centroamericana de Tobacco in Honduras. The Goss Hot August Nights Live at the Greek Amphitheater cigars use a perfect blend of Nicaraguan filler tobacco from Jalapa, Jamastran, Esteli, & Paraguay bound in a Habano leaf, and is finished in a rich San Andres wrapper. There were only 500 boxes made nationally and again, this is another one you have in your hands!

Ava Classic Maduro No. 2

Robusto

Strength - Medium

On and off the market as a limited edition release, this blend has received so much love that it's now here to stay as a regular production blend. One of the first blends ever created by Henrik Kelner and AVO Uvezian back in the 80s, it uses the same recipe as it always has: 3-year-aged Connecticut Broadleaf wrappers, and finely aged Dominican tobaccos in the filler. Don’t let the dark wrapper fool you, this cigar is rich and creamy with a medium-bodied profile. It initially greets you with creamy, milk chocolate notes, followed by some spiciness on the retro-hale. It transitions elegantly like all of AVO’s great works, introducing notes of cedar and roasted nuts on the back half.

Last Call - AJ Fernandez

Corona

Strength - Medium plus

With this being the last cigar I wanted to discuss, I thought this to be appropriate since it is "The Last Call". The AJ Fernandez Last Call Habano Geniales offers a rich and complex smoking experience. Its Habano wrapper adds a spicy kick to the blend, complemented by notes of cedar, earth, and a hint of sweetness. With a perfect size for a shorter smoke, it's a great choice for those seeking a well-balanced, flavorful cigar. Such a great cigar to finish the night IMO.
